The De Bortoli Prosecco Rosé is a crowd-pleasing bubbles that is all too easy to enjoy. It’s refreshing, lively and just a touch creamy, making it light and easy drinking. Perfect for sharing with friends with a price point that won’t break the bank. It’s the sort of wine you don’t need to think twice about popping open to enjoy on a hot Summer’s day!
I’ve been enjoying a lot of bubbles lately which certainly isn’t a bad thing. It’s the perfect weather for it and I’ll honestly take any excuse. So when I was sent a sample of the new De Bortoli Prosecco Rosé I was so excited to try it. So I actually ended up popping it open on Saturday afternoon with no real excuse. I just felt like a drink before dinner and thought I may as well make an occasion of it! And do you need a reason to open a wine other than it’s pink, it’s bubbly and I want it?
There have been a number of pink Prosecco’s popping up with the change in Italian laws around the requirements for Prosecco. Until recently it could not be made into a Rosé style. Now that it can, you’ll be seeing a lot more of these around too! This is only the second one I’ve tried and I’m honestly in love. You get all the flavours of a beautiful Prosecco (think crisp, refreshing and dry) with a bit of fun and added flavours. The best part about it is that it tends to be more affordable in terms of Sparkling due to its winemaking method. So you can enjoy some pink bubbles without the price tag! About De Bortoli and the winemaking
You have probably heard of De Bortoli before, or tried at least one of there wines. They have a rich history of winemaking that spans 90 years and starting in war-torn Europe. Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli started the winery after they immigrated to Australia and made good on adopted land through hard work, innovation and family and friends.
What started as small amounts of table wine expanded into what we see today. De Bortoli now has a reputation for premium wine under the motto Semper ad Majora (always striving for better). Their Noble One dessert wine is an iconic botrytis style wine (learn more about that in this post) and they’ve also made a name for the winery through their cool climate wines produced in the Yarra Valley. But they still have plenty of Italian style wines to enjoy.
For the De Bortoli Prosecco Rosé, the grapes are from the King Valley which is renowned for its Prosecco. The wine is a mix of Glera, the traditional Prosecco grape, and a hint of Pinot Noir. The wine was pressed and placed into steel vats for fermentation before being blended. The second fermentation was then done in steel vats as well for texture and bubbles before being transferred to bottles.
Why I loved the De Bortoli Prosecco Rosé
The De Bortoli Prosecco Rosé is seriously refreshing and easy drinking wine. It is a wine that screams enjoy me over Summer and almost feels like sunshine in a glass. What I loved so much about this wine is that it was simply enjoyable with crowd-pleasing appeal. And at under $20 for a bottle, it is the sort of wine you don’t need to think twice about opening a couple of bottles of with friends.
This wine is fragrant and full of aromas of strawberries, pomegranate and a hint of brioche. I got these same flavours in the palate but was surprised by how light and easy drinking the wine was. It didn’t punch you with flavours which I think is perfect. It was zippy and lively with a lovely dry palate, but also a hint of creaminess to round it out. This light style of bubbles is simply fun and perfect for enjoying with friends, and I certainly found it very difficult to stop at one glass!
What to enjoy it with
The De Bortoli Prosecco Rosé is light, fresh and lively and because of this I really don’t think you need to pair it with food. It is perfect for an afternoon drink or for enjoying yourself with friends. I can definitely see this fun wine having a place at a picnic or two!
If you are looking to pair it with something, I suggest light. It’s not really a wine for enjoying over dinner so think light aperitivo snacks. Nothing too crazy here – just some light snacks before dinner would be the perfect pairing.
