Wine review: Berton Vineyards Barossa Shiraz 2020

I’ve been trying my way through a few of the wines from Berton Vineyards and loving the affordable and delicious range of wines they have. Each wine has surprised and delighted me in different ways, owing to their varied vineyards across Australia. I was excited to try the Berton Vineyards Barossa Shiraz 2020 from their reserve range as it is quite affordable and sounded absolutely delicious. And let me tell you, for $22 a bottle, this wine really punches above its weight. It’s big and bold but beautifully complex and balanced. It delivers everything you want from a Barossa Shiraz in a simply tasty food wine.

The Berton Vineyards Barossa Shiraz 2020 is packed full of fruit notes of cherry and blackberry on the nose, along with the slightest touch of spice. This follows through into the palate which is rich and powerful with lovely notes of velvety chocolate to balance out the fruit. Silky tannins and just the right amount of acidity make this wine just plain delicious. It’s perfect for pairing with BBQ and this price point is the kind of wine you don’t need to think twice about opening.

About Berton Vineyards

Berton Vineyards was established in 1996 by Bob and Cherie Berton when they purchased land in the Barossa Valley. The vines struggled with getting enough water, and after a few years, they were able to produce their Bonsai Shiraz. In 2005 they decided to purchase a winery to process the grapes from this vineyard. Bob and Cherie joined with Jamie Bennett, Paul Bartholomaeus and James Ceccato to form Berton Vineyards the company.

Over the years they have expanded to work with growers across other regions of Australia, including Riverina, Coonawarra, Padthaway, Adelaide Hills, Swan Hill and Barossa.

You can purchase this wine from The Berton Vineyard website.
