It’s almost the long weekend here in Australia, and I am hanging out for it! We were only just on holidays but the struggle is very real now we’re all back into the swing of work. It will be so nice to unwind and relax over a few days, and what better way to do that than with a glass or two of wine? So while I was daydreaming about the long weekend, I thought it would be a good idea to share four perfect wines for Australia Day.
With the recent bushfires sweeping our country and severely impacting our wine regions, it’s more important than ever to support our Australian wineries. In Adelaide Hills alone over 60 wineries have been impacted, and the impact on them is absolutely heartbreaking. Some of them have lost everything, and it will take over five years to replant and recover.
What better day than Australia Day to rally and show our support for those impacted in the wine community? It might be as simple as drinking Aussie wines over the weekend and showing your support that way. There are also a number of websites offering 100% of the profits from any wine purchased going to those affected. This article from Glam Adelaide also has the direct links to purchase from wineries impacted by the bushfires so there are no commission fees. If you’d rather make a donation, the Adelaide Hills Wine Region has a fire appeal you can find out more about here or visit the GoFundMe page.
So let’s celebrate Australian wine this Australia Day and #drinkaussiewine! Here is a small list of some perfect wines for Australia Day to give you some inspiration.
Randall Tomich Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir – for the red drinkers
I’m starting off the list with a beautiful Pinot Noir from the Adelaide Hills because what better place to start? Pinot Noir is the perfect choice for those of you who love a red but also want a wine during the day. You can chill it for a little before serving to make for the perfect summer sip! Plus it will go oh so well with some lamb.
This wine, in particular, is one of the perfect wines for Australia Day because it is absolutely delicious with its spiced notes balancing out the fruit. Plus, it’s under $20 a bottle! Whoever said Pinot couldn’t be affordable?
You can grab this wine from Naked Wines. If you want a $100 voucher, click this link and enter code: CHEEKY and password: VINO (Ts and Cs apply).
Pacha Mama Pinot Gris 2017 – to cool down on a hot summer’s day
If the weather at the moment is anything to go by, it’s likely to be hot over the long weekend. In this kind of weather you want a wine that is super refreshing and easy-drinking to keep you cool all day long. Enter the Pacha Mama Pinot Gris 2017. This wine makes the list of perfect wines for Australia Day because it tastes like summer in a bottle. Fruity, vibrant and zesty, it will have you partying all day long!
This wine goes down easy on its own but would also go oh so well with a cheese platter or a nice Pavlova! You can pick it up at smaller bottle stores.
Taltarni Brut 2014 – for those that love bubbles
If you’d rather enjoy this Australia Day with a glass or two of bubbles in hand, then I have the one for you. The Taltarni Brut 2014 is perfect for lovers of Champagne who don’t want to break the bank. It is made using the traditional style, so has a similar taste and mouthfeel to Champagne, and it’s absolutely delicious! Perfect for all celebrations big and small, or just keeping to yourself.
This wine needs no pairing and would be perfect on its own. You could pair it with some cheese, but if you are heading down to the beach and on the hunt for some fish and chips, this would go oh so well with the saltiness of those sweet, sweet fries!
Purchase from Taltarni direct.
Brini 2017 Rosé – for the lovers of pink
If you’re like me, you are probably dreaming of relaxing all day with a glass of Rosé in hand. This is what I hope to do on Australia Day, and the Brini 2017 Rosé would definitely go down easy. It’s crisp and vibrant with just the right balance of flavours to leave you wanting another sip. It’s all too easy to polish off a bottle, which is what makes it perfect for summer sipping.
For a food pairing, not that you need it with this wine, definitely go for some fresh seafood. Nothing would beat a glass of this and some seafood by the beach!
You can purchase this wine directly from Brini Estate.
