I think we can agree-gio that Pinot Grigio is a great wine for Fridays! I mean any wine is good for a Friday, let’s be real. But revisiting an old friend, new vintage is a great way to start the weekend! Especially when it’s the Vino Intrepido Pinot Grigio 2021.
James Scarcebrook started Vino Intrepido in 2016 because he was a wine lover who wanted to see what it was like to make wine. The project was for his interest, and he focused on making wines from Italian varieties using grapes from regions around Australia. His love of wine shines through the finished product of his range of delicious and unique wines.
A few months back I shared the Ramato style Pinot Grigio that James produces, but this is one that I’ve tried a few times and always been a fan of that is more of a classic style. James sought to produce a wine that isn’t your typical Pinot Grigio with this wine and I think he’s succeeded.
The Vino Intrepido Pinot Grigio 2021 has about 6 months on lees to give it a different texture and flavour to what you might be used to and I am here for it. Those classic Pinot Grigio notes of apple and pear have a nice spice to them in this wine along with a beautiful taste of lemon curd. I loved the palate in this wine – it is refreshing yet smooth with a lovely crisp finish. The kind of wine that might make you think twice at first sip, then go back for more.
Food pairing wise, I think the Vino Intrepido Pinot Grigio 2021 would go perfectly with a light-based risotto or pasta.
