Wine review: Tyrrell’s 2023 Vat 47 Chardonnay
I’ve really been enjoying trying my way through the new Tyrrell’s Winemakers Selection release, and wanted to share my thoughts on the Tyrrell’s 2023 Vat 47 Chardonnay that we tried over the weekend. The Winemaker’s selection range is considered to be Australian icons. Created by third-generation Murray Tyrrell in 1962, the wines are inspired by the old-vine vineyard assets within the Tyrrell Family Estate, Ashmans. They represent the epitome of winemaking at Tyrrell’s and are known for their ageability. This Chardonnay is perfect for lovers of Chardonnay that is not too oaked, and not too acidic. It has the best of both worlds.
On the nose, the Tyrrell’s 2023 Vat 47 Chardonnay has a lovely aroma of lemon and peach with a hint of floral. This intense citrus and peach follow through into the palate alongside some nuttiness and a slightly creamy texture. The creaminess does a lovely job of balancing the bright, lively and crisp acidity in the finish that makes this wine super refreshing. But despite being crisp and bright at the finish, this wine shows a lot of length and depth that lingers long after you’ve taken a sip. It really delivers on all fronts and is sure to please most lovers of Chardonnay. We paired it with a homemade pesto pasta, but it would also be lovely with seafood.
About Tyrrell’s
Tyrell’s is a bit of an Aussie institution from the Hunter Valley, and it is easy to see why! Their rich history dates all the way back to 1858 when Edward Tyrell arrived in the Hunter Valley and planted Shiraz and Semillon.
160 plus years on, Tyrell’s has been a constant in both the Hunter Valley and Australian wine industries. From pioneering wine varieties to helping establish Hunter Valley Semillon as one of the world’s most iconic wines. Now they have deep respect for their foundations whilst looking to the future.
