This week I wanted to share a wine with you that has a purpose, and is not only delicious but will give you the warm fuzzies. I love sipping wines that are taking steps to change the world, and the wines from Tipsy Aunt Flo are doing just that! To celebrate International Women’s Day this year, I was part of a special Girls Wine Chat on Instagram where we tasted the range from Tipsy Aunt Flo and spoke about their important mission to end period shame and poverty.
Honestly, where do you start with this wine? It has one of the funnest labels I’ve seen in a while (I mean look at that bright colour), and it was delicious! But more importantly, 50% of profits in the sales of this wine go to ending period poverty. So you can sip it knowing you’re making a difference too!
About Tipsy Aunt Flo
Tipsy Aunt Flo is is a profit for purpose wine label with a mission to end period shame and poverty.
Nick and Naomi are doing this by donating 50% of our profits to ending period poverty. 800,000 women are currently living in period poverty every single day. In 2016, a study estimated 1 in 10 girls across Africa miss school during menstruation. So Tipsy Aunt Flo is trying to change that by using 50% of profits to help bring menstrual products to those who are most in need through the Cova Project. Talk about some feel-good fuzzies while you sip your wine!
On their website, you can choose between a Pinot Noir pack, a Rose pack, a bubbles pack, or a mixed pack where you can get one of each or swap around to your hearts desire. I got the Bloody Good Mixed pack is $87 AUD which gives you a selection of all their fun wines. The Rose and Pinot Noir are both from the Mornington Peninsula and the Bubbles are from South Australia.
Why I loved the Tipsy Aunt Flo Bloody Good Pinot Noir
The Tipsy Aunt Flo Bloody Good Pinot Noir was simply a delicious wine to enjoy. The grapes are sourced from Mornington Peninsula, one of my favourites in Victoria. This region is renowned for making delicious Pinot Noir, and this one is no different. On the nose, it was quite fruit-forward with cherries and plums, but also a hint of spice. This was mirrored in the palate where I loved that the spice really balanced out the fruit-forward start to this wine. It was bright, fruity and approachable, with a little complexity at the end to round it out. The wine has silky smooth tannins and a great length too!
This wine is 14% ABV so I was expecting it to be heavier than it was. It actually drunk quite light which could be dangerous! But it made the wine very easy drinking, light and fresh. You could easily chill it in summer or enjoy it at room temperature and still have a great time!
I loved how approachable this wine was and how it was just simply enjoyable to drink. The sort of wine you can see yourself enjoying with friends and not thinking too much about. This wine is simply delicious and all too easy to enjoy.
What to enjoy it with
Because of the lightness of the Tipsy Aunt Flo Bloody Good Pinot Noir, you could easily enjoy it with or without food. I would recommend having something with it though due to the alcohol volume! We enjoyed it with a cheese platter and it was absolutely perfect! I can definitely see this wine fitting in perfectly with some pre-dinner drinks over some snacks with friends.
If you are looking to pair it with food, choose something not too heavy. A light oil-based pasta with vegetables or a roast chicken would be perfect!
