If you’ve been following along for a bit, you’ll know I am a sucker for a few things. Two of those things are an Italian varietal and a cute label. So when I was sent a few of the wines from Susuro to try, I was beyond excited. I almost squealed (well, actually I did) when I opened the box because each wine was wrapped up like a present and full of confetti and glitter. Yes, I may still have glitter on my carpet, and yes I am 100% ok with this. I couldn’t wait to share these wines with you and wanted to start with the Susuro Farfalla 2019 Nebbiolo because it has just about the cutest label I’ve seen.
Why I love the Susuro Farfalla 2019 Nebbiolo
The Susuro Farfalla 2019 Nebbiolo is made using grapes from the Malako Vineyard in the Pyrenees in Victoria. I love a good Nebbiolo, particularly from this region, and this one was no exception. I haven’t tried much Nebbiolo from Australia but this one certainly ticked all the boxes for me beyond the label.
On the nose, it is vibrant with notes of floral and a hint of cherry. This followed through into the palate which had luscious fruit notes of cherry and a hint of plum along with spice and earthiness. The wine is intense yet plush and beautifully balanced. A nice long finish rounds out those flavours beautifully. From sniff to sip to finish this wine delivered tenfold. I was a bit sad when we polished it off because it was really tasty!
The Susuro Farfalla 2019 Nebbiolo would be perfect for a date night or special meal to take it to the next level. The team at Susuro suggest pairing it with creamy mushroom pasta and I reckon that would be perfect! Otherwise, enjoy it with a nice Charcuterie board and you would be set for a perfect night in.
