Wine review: Stable Tales Shiraz 2019
After trying the Stable Tales 2016 Shiraz, I was so excited to be sent their latest vintage: the Stable Tales Shiraz 2019. I’ve tried a few vintages of this wine now, and I honestly have loved every single one. Stable Tales does one wine and they do it really well.
On the nose, the Stable Tales Shiraz 2019 has a lovely aroma of blackberry, spice and a hint of vanilla. This follows through into the palate which is surprisingly soft for a full-bodied wine. I loved the rounded mouthfeel that had a beautiful balance between the fruit forwardness and lovely oak integration. The wine drinks really smoothly and has a nice velvet texture. Honestly, it is the kind of wine that wraps you up in a lovely hug as you sip it. Perfect for winter!
This wine is perfect for enjoying with food, especially when paired with roasted or grilled meats. I mean, you really couldn’t go wrong with a nice steak and this wine! I also think you could age this wine for a few years and be rewarded with it getting even better!
About Stable Tales
Stable Tales started as a horse property in the 1980s and was home to over 20 horses for 36 years. Their horses and vehicles were used for everything from weddings, films, TV, and commercials and even used for the Queens Royal Tour of Glenelg in 1986! They were also home to one of South Australia’s prominent brewery’s Clydesdale horse team. Talk about a claim to fame!
The horse business ceased in the late 1990s and the vineyard was planted producing some stunning Shiraz for us all to enjoy. When the vineyard was planted the horses became weeders and pruners of the property. The last horse Quazi was laid to rest in August 2019. I love the connection with the history of the vineyard that you see on the labels of their beautiful wines.
The 20-year-old vineyard is just one acre on gently sloping land near McLaren Vale. Although the property isn’t registered organic, they operate with minimal intervention for disease management.
