We may be far away from home, but I wanted to share this awesome Chardonnay from Soumah that we enjoyed before we left. Soumah never misses in my opinion, and the Soumah Single Vineyard Hexham Chardonnay is a winner. I couldn’t wait until we got back to tell you about it!
Soumah has a great range of varieties they offer. They have the classics – Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah and Viognier, but also focus on styles from Northern Italy such as Barbera, Brachetto, Nebbiolo and Pinot Grigio. This is what I love about their wines – you can try something you wouldn’t normally find in the Yarra Valley.
Soumah focuses on producing single-vineyard wines with quality over quantity as a core value. Their wines are elegant and made with a passion that truly shines through the end result.
Now let me introduce you to the 2021 Soumah Single Vineyard Hexham Chardonnay. The Hexham vineyard is located near Healesville, and the fruit for this wine was handpicked and whole bunch pressed with natural yeast barrel fermentation. The wine was then matured on lees to create depth and finesse.
This Chardonnay ticked all the boxes for me. It was beautifully balanced between the creaminess of oaked Chardonnay and fruit with crisp acidity. Notes of lemon along with a hint of peach and apple were beautifully balanced with brioche. The wine is nice and creamy, almost silky on the palate, finishing with a crisp freshness that I loved.
The 2021 Soumah Single Vineyard Hexham Chardonnay retails at $40 which I think is great value because this wine really delivers.
Food pairing wise I couldn’t go past roast chicken!
