Wine review: Scarborough Wines Offshoot Vermentino

Now that Spring has well and truly sprung (actually I feel like we might be skipping it and heading right into Summer here), I’ve been starting to turn to refreshing whites. And one which I enjoyed recently was the Scarborough Wines Offshoot Vermentino. This wine is nice and refreshing whilst still having a rounded and texture palate, giving you plenty to unpack. It pairs nicely with food and would go beautifully alongside some grilled fish or seafood pasta. Or, if you’re not a fan of seafood, it would also go nicely alongside some grilled veggies or a crisp salad. Whatever you pair with it, this wine is bringing the Spring vibes with its label and what’s on the inside.

On the nose, the Scarborough Wines Offshoot Vermentino has lovely floral notes alongside lemon and apple. The lemon and apple follow through into the bright and crisp palate. A hint of nuttiness adds beautiful texture. It’s got a nice, zippy finish, making it refreshing, and perfect for pairing with food.

About Scarborough Wine Co

Scarborough was created from blood, sweat, tears and several glasses of Chardonnay, so it seems fitting to enjoy their wine on International Chardonnay Day. In the 60’s Ian ‘Scarbie’ Scarborough met Merralea in the Barossa Valley. Three years later they married and then moved to the Hunter Valley to make it their home. By the end of the 70’s they purchased the Gillards Road Property to start their own wine company.

They decided their vision for the future rested on Chardonnay and got rid of all the Shiraz previously planted there. The first vintage was in 1987 and the small amount of wine was made in the garage of the house where the cellar door is today.

Fast forward to today where Scarborough Wine Co. is an established name amongst the finest in the Hunter Valley and a must-visit cellar door. They’ve expanded beyond Chardonnay to Pinot along with plenty of new varieties.
