Wine review: Saltire Estate Graciano
I can’t say I’ve had many Graciano single-variety wines, and after trying this wine I feel like I should be seeking it out more. Graciano is a Spanish variety that is often used in Rioja blends, but we also have a bit of it in Australia! And the Saltire Estate Graciano is a perfect food wine that delivers flavour with lovely balance. It’s always good to have a great food wine on hand, and this Graciano would go perfectly with anything from rich pasta to lamb.
On the nose, the Saltire Estate Graciano is wonderfully aromatic. Notes of cherry, blackberry and spice come together and follow through into the palate where I think the magic happens. It’s got a lovely complexity with plenty to unpack, with notes of cherry, spice and chocolate all coming together wonderfully. There is a good amount of acidity to make the wine nice and lively, and perfect for pairing with food. It’s juicy, complex and nicely balanced. There’s not much more you could want from a delicious food wine!
