This week I wanted to talk to you all about this awesome Pinot Noir I had on the weekend. I’m not normally a Pinot drinker, although I don’t really know why. Maybe it is because I end up going for spanish and italian wines when I buy at the bottle store as you can normally get one for cheap that is decent. I think my partner and I also tend to buy the heavier reds when we go to wine events and on wine tours, although again not sure why this is the case. I love a good Pinot Noir, so much so that last year I went to Pinot Palooza, and perhaps Pinot’ed myself out. But I don’t tend to make them my red of choice.
Well that ends here, because after drinking this delicious Pinot Noir on the weekend, I have decided that our wine collection really needs some delicious Pinot Noir to balance it out. I had forgotten how easy drinking they are, and how light they are. They are perfect for when you feel like a red wine, but it is still day time, or you aren’t eating a heavy meal. They are also so complex. I feel like you can have so many flavour combinations and intensity that always keep this wine variety interesting.
Why pay more for Pinot Noir?
So normally I find you have to pay a bit more for a good Pinot. It might be one of the barriers to purchase for me, although I do appreciate that it’s worth it in the end spending a bit extra, as you do get amazing wines in this variety. But this weekend my eyes were opened to a great Pinot Noir that doesn’t break the bank, and in fact my friend got it from Dan Murphy’s! Gotta love a wine that is easily accessible, well priced, and absolutely delicious.
Why I loved it
The wine is the Elephant in the room Palatial Pinot Noir 2017. The first thing I should say about this wine is that the label is probably the cutest label I’ve ever seen on a wine bottle. You shouldn’t judge wine by its cover, but I have been known to do this often. I cannot go past a cute, well designed wine label, and this one is so awesome and eye-catching! The extra details on the top of the wine bottle were the best part. Most wine bottle designs overlook that but it really is prime real estate for bottle branding!
What to enjoy it with
This wine was so drinkable I cannot even begin to describe. It went down all too easily on a Sunday afternoon. What I loved was it was so light, not only in its colour which you could see through, but also in its taste. It was smooth and velvety, and didn’t leave a big punch of flavour that overpowered how subtle it was overall. It was perfect for day drinking, or drinking without a meal, as it was so easy to drink, smooth and light.
Final verdict
This bottle of wine won’t set you back by much, and was honestly an awesome drop. It has made me decide I will go down to Dan Murphy’s and stock my wine collection with some tasty drinking Pinot Noir’s, as it has restored my faith in being able to get delicious Pinot’s at a good price.
