Wine review: Peter Lehmann Portrait Shiraz
In my opinion, there is a place for every wine. Sometimes you want a wine that you save for a special occasion, and sometimes you want something you can have on hand for those everyday moments. To me, Barossa Shiraz is a classic for those moments, and the Peter Lehmann Portrait Shiraz is one of those classic Shiraz’s that delivers exactly what you want it to. With Barossa notes we know so well at an affordable price point, this wine is perfect for everyday drinking as well as having on hand as a crowd-pleaser for a BBQ. It’s incredibly approachable, vibrant and tasty.
On the nose, the Peter Lehmann Portrait Shiraz is packed full of fruity notes of cherry and plum with a hint of dark chocolate. This follows through into the palate which is robust and generous with juicy cherry and plum balanced by rich dark chocolate. It’s the kind of wine that’s perfect as a go-to for BBQ or your next catch-up with friends. At only $20 a bottle, it’s really affordable and approachable.
About Peter Lehmann
If you’re like me, you’ve definitely heard the name Peter Lehmann however I haven’t tried many of their wines before. Peter Lehmann was one of the community members that helped keep the Barossa going through the difficult times of the 1970s when the wine region was hit with a severe grape surplus. He created a wine sourced from local grapes with the first vintage in 1980. Today, Peter Lehmann Wines are generous, bold and full of character.
The Portrait wines were created to paint a picture of the iconic wine regions of South Australia. They express the unique characteristics of their origin and are designed to be vibrant and approachable.
