The Petaluma 2018 B&V Vineyard Shiraz is a perfect special occasion wine that is drinking well now or could be popped away for a couple of years. It is a great companion to steak or BBQ with its ripe red fruit flavours, a hint of liquorice and pepper, and long lingering finish.
I’ve been sharing a lot of lighter style wines lately as the weather has gotten warmer. But with BBQ season upon us, there is still a place for a classic and big Shiraz in our wine lineup. So I’m very excited to share the Petaluma 2018 B&V Vineyard Shiraz from their latest wine release! This wine is absolutely delicious, age-worthy and on top of this is certified organic. It doesn’t get better than that!
There are many well known Australian wineries, and Petaluma is definitely on this list. If you haven’t heard of them before, you are in for a treat! This leading Adeliade Hills winery has just released the annual vintage of its Yellow Label Wines on the 21 October.
Their range offers a great selection of premium wines that are perfect for celebrating as we come into the silly season. Better yet, they make for a great gift if you are willing to buy them for that special someone. Hopefully, they’ll share a glass with you for your efforts!
About Petaluma
From humble beginnings in 1976, Petaluma has always been focused on producing ultra-premium wines through growing the right varieties in the right wine region. Their Yellow Label range is an exploration of this and provides classic wines in both style and regionality, produced using premium grapes and prime vineyards.
Petaluma has a prestigious reputation for a reason and has developed this over the past four decades. This release is no exception and by picking by hand they’ve ensured you are really in for a treat with these quality wines.
The Petaluma 2018 B&V Vineyard Shiraz is from Mount Barker, Adelaide Hills which has the perfect soils for growing Shiraz. This wine was one I really enjoyed drinking now but would be even better to try and hold onto for a few years to develop its flavours. This is the great thing about this release – the wines are drinking well now, but would also handle a few years of careful cellaring beautifully. It’s also certified organic!
Why I loved the Petaluma 2018 B&V Vineyard Shiraz
The Petaluma 2018 B&V Vineyard Shiraz was truly a beautiful wine to drink, and perfect for a special occasion. Or even just to make a special occasion out of something! This wine is a beautifully classic Australian Shiraz offering a real hit of flavours with a nice long finish. It has food wine written all over it!
On the nose, I got some beautiful ripe red fruit flavours like cherries and raspberries along with a hint of liquorice. I loved how ripe the fruit flavours were as they really lifted the wine and made my mouth water. Flavour-wise, this wine was amazing to drink. I got the same flavours with the classic pepper and even a hint of spice which made the wine so intriguing to drink sip after sip. The tannins were nicely balanced but there was a good hit of them which means this wine is perfect for aging. I found them quite balanced with the acidity in the wine, and it overall had a nice long finish which really lingered long after I took a sip.
This wine is truly something special. I think it will be even better with a few more years of cellaring. If this is the base, I can’t wait to see what it becomes!
What to pair it with
Enjoy this wine on a special occasion. Otherwise, enjoy it on an average day to turn it into a next-level special occasion! The Petaluma 2018 B&V Vineyard Shiraz is packed full of flavour, and so is best enjoyed with a meal. Something that will really let it shine! It is going to be the star of the show after all.
I can’t think of a more classic pairing for this wine than steak of BBQ. This makes it a great option for your summer dining, and could even be great to have with friends if you are willing to share it. Lamb would also be a great accompaniment, and if you are up for slow cooking, a slow-roasted beef dish would also go nicely.
