After going to Pinot Palooza you’d think I’d be all Pino’ed out but this girl can never get enough of it! I’m always in the mood for Pinot and the Octtava 2021 Pinot Noir that I was recently sent from Octtava Wines really hit the spot.
Octavva Wines was started in 2014 when Nikki decided that she wanted to pursue her dream of creating her own wine. Wine has always been an integral part of her life growing up and after spending 10 years in China as a musician, she came back to Australia to pursue a career in wine. She started to make wines under the Octtava label, with the vision of bringing her two passions of music and wine together.
The Octtava 2021 Pinot Noir is seriously special. The grapes used for this wine are from the Mornington Peninsula and were handpicked and separated into two batches. One was whole bunch fermented to add texture and flavour before the wine was matured in a mix of new and old French Oak.
I really love this Pinot Noir. The aromas are blackberry, plum and spice. This follows through into the palate which was velvety soft with notes of dark berries following through along with a hint of chocolate and licorice. The texture was beautifully balanced making the wine nice and smooth. It’s a really luxurious drop that keeps you going back sip after sip.
The Octtava 2021 Pinot Noir is $49 a bottle making it perfect for a special meal or even as a great gift for someone to squirrel away for a couple of years to allow the flavours to further develop. Pairing wise I don’t think you could go past classic duck or even grilled lamb.
