It is one that we had a few weeks back and I was thinking back to how good it was and realised I hadn’t posted about it. So now I ask you, do you prefer oaked or unoaked Chardonnay? I feel like everyone falls on one end of the spectrum. But I’m here to tell you that this wine is a true Switzerland. It sits between those fruity unoaked styles and those nutty and creamy oaked styles. It truly delivers something for everyone. Are you intrigued? Nashdale Lane Wines is a family-run winery in Orange, NSW. What started as a dream in Italy (where all the best dreams start) became a plan to create a winery. This became a reality in 2016 when Nashdale Lanes was born on a 60 acre established vineyard. Nashdale Lane Wines now creates a broad range of cool climate styles of wines across three great ranges. What I love about Nashdale Lane Wines is the care they put into each bottle. Their wines are complex and simply delicious, each offering something different. And with three ranges offering different price points there is something to suit any budget.

We opened the Nashdale Lane 2018 Colour Series Chardonnay on a weeknight because we’d both had a terrible day. And the best cure for a terrible day is a beautiful wine. I took one sip of this one and I felt like all my troubles drifted away! It was so complex and balanced, I enjoyed every sip. And one sip turned into one glass, one glass turned into a couple. You get the idea!

Why I loved it

The Nashdale Lane 2018 Colour Series Chardonnay is a simply delicious wine to drink. With its golden colour, you’d think it would have more oak than it does. But it is well balanced with fruity citrus flavours. On the nose, I got some blossom and citrus, along with a hint of the toastiness of the oak. When I tasted the wine, it was so balanced and complex at the same time, I needed a few more sips to unpack it. This wine is bright with citrus fruit and lemon flavours but ends with a light toasty hazelnut. I loved this because it wasn’t too fruity, or too oaked. It was just right. The result? A Chardonnay with a bright palate, creamy texture and crisp finish. What’s not to love about that? This Chardonnay is sure to be a crowd-pleaser as it ticks all the boxes.

This wine may sit in the special occasion category for many of us with its price point, but I promise it is well worth the extra spend for something so balanced and delicious. You can taste the love and care that went into developing this fantastic wine. It will also cellar well for a couple of years, and I think it is worth doing this to continue to develop the complexity in the wine. But if you are impatient like me, you won’t be disappointed cracking it out now! Definitely a great option for a gift for that Chardonnay lover in your life.

What to enjoy it with

The Nashdale Lane 2018 Colour Series Chardonnay is best enjoyed with a meal or just before dinner with snacks. Because of its fruity notes, you could easily pair it with a rich and creamy sauce, or something toasty like pastry. Think a rich risotto, creamy cheeses or chicken dishes. Personally I would love to enjoy this wine with a roast chicken – I feel like the flavours would go perfectly! I also paired it with some grilled salmon and this was delicious.
