Mo-Town Chardonnay 2019 is here for your summer

The Mo-Town Chardonnay 2019  is perfect for summer sipping. If you aren’t a fan of oaked Chardonnay, this wine is for you. Packed full of fruity flavours and a hit of acidity, it is all too easy to polish off! This wine goes so well with summer meals, cheese or just on its own to cool down after a summer’s day. 

If you’ve been reading the Cheeky Vino for a while, you’ll know I am not the biggest white drinker. I’ll usually reach for a Sparkling Wine or Rosé come summer over something white. I mean I’ll have a glass here and there, but it’s not often high on my priority list. So when I find a delicious white wine that I keep going back to, I know it is something special! The Mo-Town Chardonnay 2019 is one of those wines that completely surprised me, and also left me polishing the bottle off far too quickly!

It was a Sunday afternoon and I was stuck into Christmas baking. I finally got to lunch and felt exhausted. What I needed was a nice refreshing drink to reinvigorate my baking efforts. So I cracked open this delightful Chardonnay. The first glass went down all too easy, so much so that I needed a second glass while I was finishing off the baking. That led into dinner and before too long the bottle was polished off!

The Mo-Town Chardonnay 2019 is from Kollaras wine, and part of a small selection of wines coming from South Australia. The focus of these wines is to bring a new take to traditional wine with bold, complex and balanced flavours. Their wines are unconventional and different, offering something new and exciting. This explains why I found this Chardonnay so interesting!

Chardonnay is one of those polarising wines. People either love it or really, really hate it. I also find some of the really buttery Chardonnay isn’t quite right for summer. I don’t find it that refreshing because it is quite thick rather than having a crisp acidity. But the Mo-Town Chardonnay 2019 brings together the good from oaked and unoaked Chardonnay into a wine that is actually super refreshing. So if you are a Chardonnay hater, I think you could learn to love it through wines like these!

Why I loved it

The thing I loved most about the Mo-Town Chardonnay 2019 was just how refreshing it was. On the nose I got aromas of ripe peach and pineapple – think refreshing summer fruits! The palate was super refreshing a hit of fresh acidity and peach throughout. It instantly reminded me of summer and cooled me down. The refreshing acidity also meant that each glass went down all too easy on a hot summer day – not an awful problem to have!

The Mo-Town Chardonnay 2019  is lightly oaked so you do get a subtle hint of this throughout, but it is nothing that overpowers the freshness of the Chardonnay. So for those of you who don’t like oaked, buttery Chardonnays, this will be your jam! You can tell from the colour in the glass that it isn’t oaked – it isn’t golden like an oaked Chardonnay. The oak balances out the acidity slightly making the wine beautifully balanced. This makes for perfect summer drinking!

What to enjoy it with

I enjoyed the Mo-Town Chardonnay 2019  across a warm Sunday afternoon and evening, so I can attest to the fact that this wine goes easily with everything. Without food or before dinner, it is the perfect way to wind down and cool off on a hot summer’s day. It is all too easy to drink this summer fruit sensation, so having a glass before dinner is the perfect way to enjoy it!

However, this wine also goes oh so well with food. Before dinner, we had a glass with some cheese, and this made for a great combination. We also enjoyed it with a roast chicken and salad. The flavours in the wine went perfectly with this dish, and it made for a great accompaniment to a summer meal.

The Mo-Town Chardonnay 2019 is a great option for those that don’t love oaked Chardonnay. It is packed full of tropical fruit flavour and has a great hit of acidity, but a hint of oak to round it all out. It’s easy-drinking summer wine at its best!

Whether you are in the mood for a drink to cool off before dinner or want something to pair alongside a summer meal, this wine is sure to please. Its the sort of wine you don’t need to think twice about cracking open – drinking well now, and perfectly paired with this warm weather!
