Wine review: Kurtz Family Vineyard Charlie’s Grenache

When we visited the Barossa, one of our first stops was visiting Steve at Kurtz Family Vineyard. It was such a memorable tasting, and so lovely meeting Steve after trying his wines last year. Since then he sent me a couple of wines from his latest release to try, one of which was the Kurtz Family Vineyard Charlie’s Grenache. I’d never tried this wine before so I was excited to give it a go. Let me tell you, this wine delivers! It’s a great option if you love Shiraz but want to branch out and try something different as it still has bold and rich flavours yet is slightly lighter and fruit driven than a traditional Shiraz.

The Kurtz Family Vineyard Charlie’s Grenache is bold yet fruit driven and a beautifully aromatic, rich and textural wine. On the nose, notes of raspberry, cherry and strawberry come through with a lovely hint of spice. This follows through into the rich and bold palate that has beautiful texture. It’s quite fruit-driven up front but this is balanced by complex earthy notes alongside delicious spice. It’s the kind of wine that has a great length, and leaves you savouring it long after you’ve had a sip.

About Kurtz Family Vineyard

Kurtz Family Vineyards has a rich history dating back to the 1930s when Steve Kurtz’s Great Grandfather began growing grapes on the very same block that is still worked today in the Light Pass subregion. This was passed down through the generations and now Steve carries on the legacy.

Steve manages the vineyard and produces the wines on his own, constantly striving to learn new techniques and apply them to his delicious wines. He brings countless years of experience and knowledge to every wine he produces.

This wine is named after Charlie Braunack who is a true Barossa legend. The block used for this wine is one he still tends and was planted in 1895.

You can find out more about this wine at the Kurtz Family Vineyard website.

Note: This wine was sent as a sample. I was under no obligation to post about it.Β
