Wine review: Hirsch Hill Pinot Noir

Recently we visited the Yarra Valley, and I fell in love again with Yarra Valley Pinot. So I was pretty excited to get the opportunity to try one that I’ve never had before: the Hirsch Hill Pinot Noir. This wine is perfect for lovers of brighter, fruitier Pinot styles. It still has a nice hint of earthiness, but I found it to be more fruity, making it perfect for Spring sipping. It would go beautifully with a mushroom risotto or grilled meats.

On the nose, the Hirsch Hill Pinot Noir has lovely notes of Cherry and Raspberry. These follow through into the palate which is bright and zippy. The earthiness comes through here to balance the fruitiness beautifully and add complexity. The finish is clean and refreshing, rounding out the wine beautifully. I think this wine is great for the hotter weather that’s on the horizon here in Australia, and could even be served chilled if you like your Pinot cold!

About Hirsch Hill

Hirsch Hill’s journey began in 1998 when Jack and Eddie transformed a smaller Yarra Valley farm into a thriving vineyard. Jack laid the first vines with a dedication to craftsmanship and a philosophy that success comes from perseverance, not shortcuts. Over the years, Hirsch Hill has stayed true to this ethos, growing steadily and earning a reputation for quality winemaking.

In 2023, the vineyard took an exciting new step, producing its own wine under the expert guidance of Chief Winemaker Peter Mackey. This marked a fresh chapter in the Hirsch Hill story, with the second generation now at the helm. The vineyard remains deeply rooted in the hard work and values instilled by its founders, continuing to flourish while honouring the legacy of passion and persistence.
