Wine review: Geddes 2020 Petit Verdot
Recently I posted a wine guide on Petit Verdot and realised I don’t really drink enough of it. It isn’t as well known as a Shiraz or Cabernet, particularly as a single varietal. After the article, Geddes reached out to me and asked if they could send their Geddes 2020 Petit Verdot for me to try, and I leapt at the opportunity! After trying it, I think I need to make it a goal to find more Petit Verdot. This wine is an absolutely perfect food wine that would be perfect with roast lamb or beef. But it would also be perfect with a BBQ as we head into the warmer months. Overall it shows that you should really reach out to other varieties to try something different – because this wine is not only affordable but delivers tenfold!
The Geddes 2020 Petit Verdot is the generosity of Shiraz with the structure of Cabernet, all wrapped into seriously tasty wine. Notes of blueberry, liquorice and spice on the nose follow through into a beautifully intense, yet elegant wine. These notes are rounded by fine tannins and a slight savoury note, making the wine beautifully rounded. With a nice long finish, this wine is sure to stand up to a number of delicious meals. It’s simply delicious drinking!
About Geddes
Geddes Wines sources all the fruit locally in McLaren Vale through relationships rather than contracts. The wines are handmade in their Blewitt Springs winery with the ethos of creating, not producing. Winemaker Tim takes great pride in building relationships with producers and has been dealing with the same growers since its establishment in 2007. Their wines are open fermented, gentle extraction and basket pressed for generous fruit and subtle tannins.
Geddes is environmentally conscious using solar panels to power the winery. All water is captured rainwater and waste-water is fed onto growing gumtrees which has increased the natural habitat surrounding the winery.
You can purchase this wine from The Geddes website.
Note: This wine was sent as a sample. I was under no obligation to post about it.
