Five wine-related Valentine’s Day ideas

by The Cheeky Vino

The international day of love is almost upon us: Valentine’s Day! I am a sucker for celebrating this day – any excuse to celebrate and spend time together. I know some people are cynical about it, my partner included, but honestly who doesn’t love an excuse to share a special moment with the person you love? There are also so many great things you can connect together with Valentine’s Day. Good food, chocolates, teddy bears…oh, and wine! I mean, what would a celebration of love be without a great bottle of wine to get you in the mood for romance? When I was planning my own celebration, I started coming up with some ideas that I thought I would share. And so, this guide to five wine-related Valentine’s Day ideas was born!

It can be hard to come up with something special to do with your significant other that is creative and that you’ll both enjoy. But I can promise you that adding some wine to what you’re doing is sure to turn up the romance! I hope these ideas might inspire you to really celebrate in style this year. Any excuse for wine, right?

Run your own wine tasting

via Giphy

If you and your partner are really into wine, why not run your very own wine tasting? It’s a perfect way to spend some time together and drink some great wine. It also is quite cost-effective and you don’t even need to make a reservation! You can also pick your favourite wines, so you don’t have to drink the obligatory Chardonnay if you don’t want to!

All you need to do to make this happen is to buy a few of your favourite bottles of wine. You could even grab a few from your collection that you’ve been saving for a special occasion. Then set up the wines with a few glasses and enjoy! You can also pair the wines with a nice cheese board with their favourite snacks. Because it’s important to line the stomach when tasting wine! I’m thinking some nice brie, dark chocolate and mixed nuts! Whatever takes your fancy, it is sure to be a nice evening of great wine!

Create your own food and wine degustation

This option also is quite budget-friendly, and doesn’t require a reservation! If you love cooking, this one is for you. Even if you don’t like cooking, you could definitely still do this – so don’t let that stop you!

Why pay for an expensive Valentine’s Day degustation when you could have the same thing at home? Going out to dinner on for Valentine’s Day always comes with a price tag – so this is a great way to celebrate in a more intimate setting without the price tag!

Better than that, you can pair your meal with some different wines! Think about what you want to serve and then Google some wines that will match. You can have your own degustation of your favourite foods and your favourite wines.

If you aren’t into cooking, why not do the same thing with some takeout? Just order from your favourite place, or your favourite cuisine, serve it up all nice, and make sure you match the wines!

Go on a winery tour

via Giphy

A list of wine-related Valentine’s Day activities needs some vineyards! If you are looking for something to do during the day, why not go on a winery tour? This is a perfect option for those who are lucky enough to live near a wine region! You could opt for a full-day tour, or even just visit some of your favourites. Winery tours are always a great way to spend quality time with your partner, and drink some great wine while you explore the region!

You might opt to go on a paid tour so you can both partake, or you could be super nice and offer to drive your partner around for a cheaper option. Either way, it’s a great way to spend time together having fun and of course finding some wines you love!

Go on a wine tour of your city

via Giphy

If you aren’t near a wine region, never fear! This idea is inspired by the Urban Wine Walk we went on which I loved. It meant we could visit bars I’d never been to before, all while enjoying some great wine! There are so many wine bars popping up in every city. Why not go on a bit of a treasure hunt around them? You can research and pick a few places around the city, and then take your partner on a whirlwind journey. You could either tell them where they are going with a cute map, or if you are really creative come up with some clues to keep them guessing about the next stop!

This is a great way to try new places in your city together and means you won’t be breaking the bank. You can grab a couple of snacks along the way and if you don’t get through the list, who cares? I wouldn’t blame you for stopping at your favourite and having a couple!

Grab your favourite bottle and have a movie night

via Giphy

A list of wine-related Valentine’s Day ideas would not be complete without one of my favourite activities on a Friday night. For those low key couples who don’t want to do anything fancy, this is for you. Just because you don’t believe in Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you can’t grab your favourite bottle, some takeout, and watch a movie together. After all, Valentine’s Day is about spending time with the person you love. And what is more perfect than cosying up on the couch with your favourite wine and your favourite person?

Want to take it up a notch? Make a really nice cheese board or even a dessert platter. You could even pop out some candles if you’re feeling fancy! Bonus points for letting them watch their favourite movie, although a chick flick would be the dream!
