This week I wanted to write about a wine that I’ve enjoyed twice in the past couple of months. We have had the pleasure of this because my partner and I thought ahead and instead of buying one bottle of a wine that we enjoyed, we bought 3! Now we are down to our last bottle of it, so I guess we will be hoarding it until our next trip to the Granite Belt in May, but I figured I should write about it here because it is absolutely delicious.
Loving the Granite Ridge wines
The wine I am talking about is the Granite Ridge 2015 Caberaz. We had the pleasure of visiting Granite Ridge when we went to Stanthorpe a few years ago, but recently we visited their stall at the Ekka and ended up buying 12 bottles because we enjoyed their wines so much!
All their wines are excellent, and so if you are ever in the area I would highly recommend visiting them for a tasting. They also have dessert liqueurs which are out of control good, and all too easy to sip on, especially after a full wine tasting! We came back from our wine visit with a few bottles that were finished all too quickly, and again when we visited the Ekka stall we can stock our cellar with some of their beautiful wines.
Why I loved it
The Caberaz is a blend of Shiraz and Merlot, and it is absolutely delicious. It is dark and rich in its flavour, kind of reminding me of something you would drink in a whisky room with leather arm chairs and the smell of mahogany. That could just be me though! I love the deep flavours in this wine that are oaky and a bit savoury.
What to enjoy it with
It went perfectly with roast beef that we enjoyed this week with a friend, and would go great with meals that have those slow roasted meats in them. I found it complemented the beef perfectly, but was just as enjoyable on its own before dinner!
Final verdict
I enjoyed this wine so much that I wish we had more than one bottle left! Normally I won’t buy blends, especially from wineries (don’t ask me why, it seems like a bit of a trend but I have no idea what started it), but this one is an excellent exception. It’s perfectly for a delicious flavour and one that makes it all too easy to keep going back for more. I have to say I wasn’t planning to drink during the week this week but that wine made it too hard to resist!
