Vinomofo Mimi Flamingo Chardonnay 2017

It's a good time inside and out

by The Cheeky Vino

Chardonnay is a point of contention in our household. Not because we hate it, quite the opposite. It is because my husband and I are different Chardonnay lovers. So when I tried the Vinomofo Mimi Flamingo Chardonnay 2017 I knew I was on to a winner.

You see, my husband loves the old school Chardonnays that gave Chardonnay a bad name. I’m talking the butterier the better. In fact, a few weeks ago we got shamed by a Sommelier for ordering the butteriest Chardonnay on the menu. It’s just how he rolls.

Me on the other hand, I love something balanced between those crisp flavours of unoaked Chardonnay along with a hint of oak. Something that brings the best of both worlds and is refreshing yet slightly rich and creamy. I want my cake and to eat it too thank you very much. The best part about finding these holy grail Chardonnays is that they have enough creaminess usually to get my husband over the line.

I have to report that this Chardonnay from Vinomofo is one of my new favourites. Not only does it have one of the cutest labels I’ve seen in a long time, but it also seriously delivers on flavour. So much so that even my husband could get around it.

The Vinomofo Mimi Flamingo Chardonnay 2017 was made in collaboration with Oakridge wines, one of our favourite wineries in the Yarra Valley. We actually went there for lunch just after we got engaged! They really know how to make a Chardonnay, and this one shows why they were at the top of Vinomofo‘s list for collaborating on this wine.

This wine was made from a selection of single vineyards in a cracking year. It included Willowlake (one of the oldest in the Upper Yarra) and Henk (one of the newest and most exciting vineyards for Oakridge). As this wine already has a couple of years on it, it is entering its peak drinking window. So you don’t have to think twice about enjoying it!

What I love about the Vinomofo Mimi Flamingo Chardonnay 2017 is how balanced it is. It has bright and perky flavours with a lifted palate of apple and peach. This is balanced by the flavours of French Oak treatment, giving it creaminess and nutty flavours of hazelnut. I loved how complex this wine is. Each sip had me unpacking more and more, and loving it more and more. The wine is medium-bodied and rounded with elegance yet crisp freshness. Really it delivers it all!

One of my favourite parts about this wine (second to how delicious it is) is the labels. They actually tell a story, and there are six different designs showing Mimi travelling the world. Each label shows a different part of her journey – whether it is Tokyo (my favourite) or Africa. It’s such a fun touch to the wines that I absolutely love.

Food pairing wise this wine goes great with food. Because of its acidity, it would actually go well with Spicy Food. But a classic pairing would have to be roast chicken or risotto. I can always get behind Chardonnay and these pairings!

The Vinomofo Mimi Flamingo Chardonnay 2017 is $30 a bottle purchased in a six-pack from Vinomofo. Check it out now on their website.
