I absolutely adore the wines from Vino Intrepido – it’s no secret. And one of the first wines I tried from James was his Sangiovese. It was the one that I fell head over heels for (so much so it made it to my top wines of the year in 2020). Recently I was sent the latest vintage to try. I could hardly contain my excitement that he’d popped in a bottle of the Vino Intrepido Blood of my Blood Sangiovese 2020 Sangiovese for me. I simply couldn’t keep away! And so here we are on this fine Friday with me gushing about Sangiovese – surprise surprise.
James Scarcebrook started Vino Intrepido in 2016 because he was a wine lover who wanted to see what it was like to make wine. The project was for his interest. He focused on making wines from Italian varieties using grapes from regions around Australia.
James is passionate about furthering the understanding and appreciation of both Italian wines and Italian grape varieties in Australia. He selects varieties that suit the Australian climate and soil, and also focuses on the region.
I loved the 2020 vintage of the Vino Intrepido Blood of my Blood Sangiovese. I knew I would but it was nice to see James go from strength to strength with his wines!
This Sangiovese seriously delivers on flavour. I loved the balance between intense fruit and savoury earthiness in this wine. I got notes of dark cherry, earth and spice all coming together into an intense yet balanced drop. It has a wonderful texture to it and despite its youth is drinking beautifully now.
Sangiovese is screaming out to be paired with food, and this wine would go perfectly with a good meal. Anything from tomato-based pasta to grilled or roasted meats.
The Vino Intrepido Blood of my Blood Sangiovese 2020 retails at $36.99 and can be purchased from Vino Intrepido directly or a select number of wine stores.
