Even in Summer I still enjoy red wine, especially with dinner. I feel like there is always an occasion for red wine, sometimes you just have to find the right one (or chuck on the air-con). There are also plenty of meals that go oh so perfectly with red wine – hello BBQ. So when I got the chance to try this amazing Grenache from The Group, I didn’t let a little thing like warm weather get in the way of enjoying red wine! I really love the initiative behind The Group wines with supporting the Aussie wine industry being so close to my heart, and so I was excited to try their wine.

About The Group Wines

The Group The Quiver 2019 Grenache

The Group Wines is a collective of over 100 individual growers, all bringing their best to create a collection of premium wines. In doing so the initiative hopes to support the grower’s livelihoods and facilitate a sharing of ideas and knowledge.

With the heart-breaking bushfires severely affecting the Adelaide Hills, and the pandemic seriously impacting retail sales, it has never been more important to support our smaller wine producers. The Group was formed as a way of pivoting from this devastation to support those growers and get their wine out to us consumers in another way! Through the initiative, they hope to support the locals behind the labels.

The grapes for The Group The Quiver 2019 Grenache are grown on Dave and Jen Wright’s Wlypena Vineyard in McLaren Vale. The site is managed by Jen’s son Fred and wife Sarah, so this wine is truly a family effort!

Why I loved The Group The Quiver 2019 Grenache

The Group The Quiver 2019 Grenache

The Group The Quiver 2019 Grenache is seriously delicious. What I loved about it was the texture of the wine. Sometimes Grenache can be fruity up front but a little too light. This wine had enough other flavours and a great balance of oomph to really make it stand out. This could be the old vines and sandy soil that the grapes came from.

Upfront, you’ll get classic berry flavours of Grenache – think blackcurrants and cherries along with a bit of raspberry. I loved how fresh the flavours of the fruit were upfront in this wine. This was complemented by a nice spice which balanced out the wine. The wine itself had a lovely long and smooth finish that I loved. It really lingered long after you took a sip!

What to enjoy it with

The Group The Quiver 2019 Grenache has enough body to it and flavours to make it a great food wine. It goes oh so well with roast lamb and veggies, or you could grill some lamb chops or steaks on the BBQ. There is definitely enough structure in it to make it the perfect wine for your next get together over some steaks and salad.

In summary: The Group The Quiver 2019 Grenache

The Group The Quiver 2019 Grenache is a beautifully delicious wine with a great cause behind it. I love that this initiative is making beautiful wines from South Australia even more accessible to us, so we can enjoy them and support our smaller producers at the same time! This wine is a taste sensation with its juicy, fruity front and long smooth finish. It’s a great option if you’re looking for something to enjoy with your next summer BBQ.
