I’ll admit, I’m not usually the biggest Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon fan. I normally find them a little too heavy for me. But with the weather getting colder here in Brisbane, I have since changed my tune! That, and I had this delicious Terranu Wines 2016 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon which really hit the spot!
Terranu Wines have a focus on producing premium wines from across Australia. They produce their wines from iconic regions to create superior quality from grape to glass. They choose producers for their craftsmanship and skill to produce wines with character and elegance. This wine is no different!
The Terranu Wines 2016 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon seriously delivered on flavour. It is high alcohol at 15% ABV but doesn’t drink like it. A little dangerous, sure, but delicious! On the nose I got beautiful fruity notes of blackcurrant along with leather and spice. I loved how enticing the nose was on this wine – it really made me want to dive in!
What I loved though was that I was expecting a big hit of warmth from the alcohol, but I didn’t get it. This wine didn’t drink as heavy as I expected and had a lovely complex palate with a long finish. It was really Moorish and perfect for cooler weather!
The Terranu Wines 2016 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon is a great food wine – think those classic winter comfort foods. I can’t think of a better pairing than a braised beef and this wine.
At $45 a bottle, this wine has already had some age and is drinking well now. It’s a great option if you’re looking for a winter warmer!
