I am loving Grenache at the moment, so when I was sent the Small Victories Old Vine Grenache to try I could hardly contain my excitement!
Small Victories is about producing fun yet seriously delicious wines all hand-crafted by sisters-in-law Jules and Bec Ashmead. They work with grape growers across South Australia to select fruits to produce wines that are simply delicious and that are fun, fresh and modern. They are made for enjoying now and perfect for enjoying with friends.
This wine was made using grapes from the Barossa Valley. The use of old vines means more flavours as it means the vines produce less fruit. The fruit that is produced is packed full of concentrated goodness.
The Small Victories Old Vine Grenache is full of vibrancy for a seriously delicious and approachable wine. On the nose, I got plum, musk and herb. On the palate, this followed through with bright fruit and a savoury edge. The finish is fresh and crunchy.
This wine is perfect for red lovers in Summer and great for enjoying now without cellaring.
Pairing wise think light. Greek salads, couscous with chickpeas or a Panzanella would be perfect. Those richer yet summery flavours would go so well with this wine.
At $40 a bottle, this wine is great if you want to try some tasty old vine Grenache over the Summer holidays!
