Wine review: Pike & Joyce Innesti Nebbiolo
It’s been a while since I’ve had a Nebbiolo and after trying this wine I am not sure why. It’s nothing new that I am a big fan of Italian varieties, but Nebbiolo isn’t something I have as often as something like Sangiovese. So when I was sent the Pike & Joyce Innesti Nebbiolo to try, I could hardly wait. And let me tell you, this wine seriously delivers. It’s a great food wine just begging to be paired with a comforting beef ragu. And it doesn’t get much better than that as we head into cooler weather (I mean, maybe not in Brisbane, but a girl can dream).
The Pike & Joyce Innesti Nebbiolo delivers everything you want from a tasty Nebbiolo and more. On the nose, it is complex with so many aromatics to discover. Cherry and plum along with earthiness dominate, but there is also a lovely floral note that adds a delicate note to the wine alongside a hint of spice. The wine is medium-bodied with ripe cherry, plums and a hint of peppery spice. That earthiness also shines through adding complexity and balancing out the fruity notes. It has the classic firm tannins of a Nebbiolo that make it perfect for enjoying food. It’s simply delicious!
