Wine review: Levantine Hill Glen Garvald Marsanne Roussanne
I’ve been enjoying trying my way through the Levantine Hill Glen Garvald range, and one I wanted to share that I tried recently was the Marsanne Roussanne. For this range named after the historical surveyor’s geographic marker overlooking their vineyard, they are experimenting with wines uncommon to the Yarra Valley with a combination of new and old techniques. The Levantine Hill Glen Garvald Marsanne Roussanne is a real treat with lots to unpack. This blend is rich and luscious thanks to the Marsanne with a hint of crisp acidity from the Roussanne—a match made in heaven.
The Levantine Hill Glen Garvald Marsanne Roussanne is wonderfully aromatic with lovely floral aromas, nectarine, and a hint of salinity. The palate is medium-bodied with a beautiful weight to it from the Marsanne. It’s rich and mouth-filling, with notes of peach, nectarine, lime, and minerality. There is plenty to unpack sip after sip, and the perfect amount of acidity balances all those flavours. It finishes long, with the flavours lingering long after you’ve taken a sip. This complex wine is a lovely bundle of rich flavours with a touch of acidity. Pair it with seafood, Asian cuisine or roast chicken and you have a great meal.
About Levantine Hill
Nestled in the heart of Australia’s Yarra Valley, Levantine Hill Winery is an absolute treasure trove for lovers of premium Australian wine. Since their first vintage in 2012, they’ve continued to make an impression and are considered some of the best wines in the Yarra Valley. Levantine Hill was established by the Jreissati family who bought a well-established vineyard on the Maroondah Highway at Coldstream and began creating a new one. Their wines are handcrafted without compromise, producing premium bottles with exceptional quality.
The winery began against the odds, with experts saying the terrain was incapable of sustaining vines in such an elevated location. But they persevered with a vision to produce exceptional wines, and now their vineyards have an elevation that is quite similar to the Grand Cru vineyards of Chablis, France. This spirit of determination shines through in their quality award-winning wines.
