Wine review: Kurtz Family Vineyards Seven Sleepers Shiraz

A delicious, great quality Shiraz at a good price in this economy? Yes, it is possible! I’ve been a fan of the wines from Kurtz Family Vineyards for a few years now. Steve Kurtz produces wines that are really tasty while still being super affordable. You’d be forgiven for thinking that a Barossa Shiraz with a price point of $20 is going to be mass-produced, but what you’ll find with the Kurtz Family Vineyards Seven Sleepers Shiraz is a great wine packed full of flavours from fifth-generation vigneron Steve Kurtz. This wine is perfect for those nights when you want something delicious but you don’t want to break the bank.

On the nose, the Kurtz Family Vineyards Seven Sleepers Shiraz has lovely notes of lively fruit with plum and cherry dominating along with a hint of chocolate. These bright notes flow into the full-bodied and rich palate which is juicy with those fruit notes, alongside a hint of toastiness from oak. The tannins are silky with a nice balance of acidity, making it great for pairing with food. It’s also got a nice, long finish so you can enjoy those lovely flavours long after you take a sip. This wine is simply tasty, and the sort of wine you don’t need to think twice about opening!

About Kurtz Family Vineyards

Kurtz Family Vineyards has a rich history dating back to the 1930s when Steve Kurtz’s Great Grandfather began growing grapes on the very same block that is still worked today in the Light Pass subregion. This was passed down through the generations and now Steve carries on the legacy.

Steve manages the vineyard and produces the wines on his own, constantly striving to learn new techniques and apply them to his delicious wines. He brings countless years of experience and knowledge to every wine he produces.
