The Kings of Prohibition Chardonnay is a crowd pleasing Chardonnay with notes of tropical fruit, butter and nuttiness. Whether you’re a fan of oaked or unoaked Chardonnay, you’ll be able to get behind this wine. Enjoy with roast chicken or creamy pasta and friends.
Last week we used the public holiday as an excuse to open a bottle of wine on a Monday night. We normally try to be good during the week (keyword – try), but we thought getting through Monday and not having to work on Tuesday was a good reason to enjoy some wine. Plus, I’d made a beautiful roast chicken that was screaming out for a Chardonnay. The stars aligned and we had the perfect excuse to try the Kings of Prohibition Chardonnay.
I couldn’t wait to try this wine which I had seen around. It is eye-catching because of its unique bottle design, so I was excited to see what was actually in the bottle. My partner is obsessed with Chardonnay and loves buttery ones, so it is a gamble sometimes trying new ones. Sometimes he likes them, sometimes they aren’t oaked enough for him. But I can tell you that this wine ticked all the boxes, and at under $25 a bottle, it is affordable too!

Why I loved the Kings of Prohibition Chardonnay
The Kings of Prohibition Chardonnay is a great balance between oaked and unoaked Chardonnay, offering something for everyone. It has the classic warmer climate Chardonnay flavours which offer something different to perhaps what you’re used to. Think notes of pineapple, nectar and dried mango. It was a tropical sensation that made this wine perfect for summer.
These fruity notes were balanced out by a nice buttery and nutty flavour from the use of oak. The winemaker used a mixture of malolactic fermentation for this weight and creaminess in the wine. I think this texture really balances out the fruity flavours in the wine, making it oh so easy to enjoy. This wine has the best of both worlds, making it easy drinking and the sort of wine you don’t have to think twice about opening.
What to enjoy it with
We enjoyed the Kings of Prohibition Chardonnay with roast chicken and I have to say it was the perfect pairing. This wine goes so well with food making it a great wine for pairing with summer meals. Chicken is a great option, or you could just as easily pair it with creamy pasta or risotto.
In summary: The Kings of Prohibition Chardonnay
The Kings of Prohibition Chardonnay is a super approachable Chardonnay with a fantastic price point that makes it perfect for enjoying with friends. Tropical fruit notes and creamy butter come together in a nicely textured wine that’s all too easy to sip. With its fun and unique bottle, affordable price point and delicious flavours, this wine is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
