Have you tried Sicilian Nero d’Avola before? Well here is your sign to try one like this! The Di Giovanna Vurria Nero d’Avola DOC Sicilia is a really delicious wine that keeps you wanting more. It is made from organically cultivated vineyards in Contessa Entillina, Palermo. Since starting in 2004, Di Giovanna has focused on reducing yield per hectare to really focus on quality, and this shines through in this wine.
I’ve been a fan of Nero d’Avola for quite some time, but I have to admit I haven’t had many from Sicily. This is crazy because this is where this incredible grape is most famous!
This Nero d’Avola had a beautiful nose to it with notes of cherry, spice and a hint of plum. However, this wine really shone in its flavour. The palate was super silky with a great balance between berries, cherry and spice. The wine enveloped your mouth but had a nice savoury finish along with soft tannins. It was a serious taste sensation and all too easy to enjoy!
The Di Giovanna Vurria Nero d’Avola DOC Sicilia is a great food wine as most Italian wines are. My recommendation? You can’t go wrong with a bottle of this along with a tomato-based pizza or pasta. That is a match made in Italian heaven!
