Wine review: Damien Pinon Tuffo Vouvray Sec 2022

Recently, I was sent a few wines from the Loire Valley to try as the perfect pairing for Summer. I haven’t had the opportunity to try many wines from the Loire Valley, so I was excited to see how much range there is of deliciously drinkable and refreshing wines. I decided to start with the Damien Pinon Tuffo Vouvray Sec 2022, and it ticked all the boxes for Summer sipping.  Vouvray is dedicated entirely to Chenin Blanc; it produces wines that span from racy and mineral to rich and honeyed, all with that signature Loire freshness. This wine is no different and is packed full of beautiful flavours to discover.

In the glass, the Damien Pinon Tuffo Vouvray Sec 2022 is classic Vouvray with a bit of extra spark. Those hallmark notes of pear, apple, lemon and mineral slate create an aromatic profile that feels both vibrant and grounded. The palate is wonderfully expressive: juicy apple and pear give juicy flavour, and crunchy acidity and a touch of phenolic grip keep everything tight and mouthwatering. The finish brings a hint of sweet spice that lingers longer than you expect. It’s a wine that manages to be refreshing, textural and quietly complex all at once, the kind you want on hand for long lunches, seafood dishes, or any warm evening.

About the Loire Valley

The Loire Valley is basically summer in a bottle, and as the weather warms up in Australia, there’s no better time to pour a glass and dive in. Known as the “Garden of France,” this iconic region stretches across a patchwork of soils and microclimates, giving rise to an incredible diversity of styles — from zesty Sauvignon Blancs to elegant sparkling wines and vibrant rosés. Whether you’re reaching for a crisp Touraine on a sunny afternoon, a refined Crémant de Loire for a celebration, or a fresh Rosé d’Anjou for a picnic, Loire wines deliver effortless charm with a distinctly French flair. Each sip captures centuries of craftsmanship and a relaxed, joyful spirit that feels tailor-made for long lunches, beach days, and balmy evenings.

What makes the Loire truly special is how beautifully it fits into the Aussie lifestyle. Its wines are bright, food-friendly, and endlessly versatile — think seafood feasts, barbecues, spicy Asian dishes, charcuterie boards, or even a simple fruit platter. And it’s not just about the classics; the region’s expressive Chenin Blanc from Vouvray or the delicate bubbles of Crémant de Loire offer fresh ways to elevate everyday moments. Loire wines also pair perfectly with creative at-home nights, whether you’re painting, crafting, or journaling with a chilled glass by your side. From festive gatherings to slow, simple evenings, Loire wines bring a touch of joie de vivre to every summer occasion.

Note: This wine was sent as a sample. I was under no obligation to post about it.
