It’s no secret I love Sangiovese, so when I was sent some wines from Dalfarras to try, I got stuck into the Dalfarras Sangiovese 2019. I am predictable what can I say.
Dalfarras is a celebration of wine, art and family. A creative union between Alister and Rosa Purbrick and their eldest child, Hayley Purbrick. Rosa Purbrick brings her passion for the natural landscape into her works and vibrant energy to the Dalfarras labels. Alister Purbrick is the 4th generation of the Purbrick family at Tahbilk and adds his wine-making touch to the Italian and Spanish inspired wines. Their daughter Hayley, who is passionate about the environment is making sure the wines are modern yet environmentally friendly carbon neutral wines.
The Dalfarras Sangiovese 2019 is made using mostly grapes from the Clare Valley as well as some from Goulburn Valley. This year was the hottest summer on record and with little rainfall it was very dry. Despite this ripening was steady allowing for optimal conditions for red wines.
The Dalfarras Sangiovese 2019 is absolutely delicious. Aromas of plum, cherry and a hint of herb come together into this beautiful wine. On the palate fruit is balanced by earthiness and a hit of tannin on the finish.
This wine is a perfect food wine, as most Sangiovese is. I couldn’t think of a better pairing than pizza or pasta (do as the Italians do). However, I think it could also be paired with BBQ if you feel like it!
You can purchase Dalfarras wines from the Tahbilk website and online retailers.
