Wine review: Collector Wines Tiger Tiger Chardonnay
After visiting the Tumbarumba wine region late last year, I’ve really been enjoying tasting my way through a few examples of the region I was recently sent. It’s been so nice to revisit these wines and the special memories of this beautiful wine region. This week I wanted to share another delicious Chardonnay from the region: The Collector Wines Tiger Tiger Chardonnay. Tumbarumba fruit produces some absolutely incredible Chardonnay, and this wine is an excellent example of that. It’s perfect if you love Chardonnay with a nice balance between oaked and unoaked notes. It allows the fruit to shine through whilst still having some lovely notes of oak influence that will only continue to develop.
The Collector Wines Tiger Tiger Chardonnay is an absolutely delightful Chardonnay that is fresh on the nose and complex and rounded on the palate. Aromas of white flowers, grapefruit and peach come through on the nose and follow through into the palate. The palate itself is focused and concentrated with lovely notes of brioche and lemon curd. This wine is deliciously complex with beautiful concentration and depth, and a lovely lingering aftertaste. It is stunning from start to finish and leaves you going back sip after sip.
About Collector Wines
Collector Wines was started in 2005 by Alex McKay. I met Alex when I visited Tumbarumba and really enjoyed learning more from him. He is an incredible winemaker producing absolutely stunning wines. He started Collector Wines with a handful of cool climate shiraz and a determination to make elegant, long-lived wines.
Today, Collector Wines is known for producing wines that highlight the purity of regional expression and varietal definition. Their grapes come from vineyards around the Canberra District and around New South Wales, including Tumbarumba.
You can find out more about this wine at the Collector Wines website. It’s also available at select retailers.
Note: This wine was sent as a sample. I was under no obligation to post about it.
